Deep breath.

I figured it was time to share a little bit of my own experiences with my art. So often people ask why I have chosen my subject matter and style. In my awkwardness and the personal nature of my paintings I never really know how to answer. But, if you're patient with me I'll do my best here to answer. I think I'm getting ahead of myself though, let me tell you about how I've been able to be creative this summer.

Through a program called Summer Company, the Ontario doles out grants of up to $1500 to youth between the ages of 18-29 interested in starting their own business over the summer. To apply the youth have to write up a detailed business plan, source materials and really prove there's a market for their idea. The applicant is introduced to a business advisor in their local community who gives support and advice, or connects them to someone who can. I amNot someone who has ever been very good with words it took quite a few long hours infront of my computer and away from the sketch pad to write up my application.

That much has paid off up to this point! I received my official acceptance into the program a few weeks ago and ever since have been working away to build up an inventory, make contacts with local shops, apply to craft shows and festivals, built displays for my products and a whole myriad of other things I never would have thought.

It's quite special being able to have some support for my creativity. I am under no illusion that this will be a profitable summer, but it will certainly be a pleasant one.

I love acorns, bells, pockets, birds, purring cats, waggly dogs, swirly ice cream cones, tubby bears, and stars.
Using a combination of found materials from my home in Guelph ON and standard art supplies I create things that make me happy and I hope you too.
